My
daughter thought they needed extra care that they couldn't get at the
barn in the evenings so they found there way to our garage. Chickens
grow fast and we have learned so much from them in the past year.
Hopefully what we share with you may help you decide if they are the
right pet for you.

We have built a cozy home / coop for them. SunnyDee is here enjoying an afternoon roost.
This picture was taken when they were approximately one week old. Not a pretty site, but definitely one only a mother would love. No feathers and alot of exposed skin.
When we view a nesting box, we tap a few times to make sure there is no one on the inside and then carefully open up the door. Take a few quick pictures and close the door. The entire process should take around 30 seconds so not to anger the parents.
But, it is interesting. Usually when you open the door the mom is not there. This will get very interesting whenever they hatch.
It is finally starting to warm up. Before dawn each morning you hear the birds getting ready for the day. This is usually the first sounds of the morning. You also know the birds have been busy because new nests are built and eggs are starting to appear. Below are five eggs that were laid within the last week (approximately the 3rd week of April).
What do bluebirds eat?Since the WHB has ventured out and started making bluebird clubhouses, we often get asked questions on where to place the clubhouse and what do they eat. As we learn more we will post what we know. Also, to learn more we search to see what others are saying.
Each year we have had one birdhouse in our small yard, this year we are trying 3. Bluebirds are said to be territorial and there should be adequate space between the houses. We will see?

I just ran across this article about birdhouses and it was interesting realizing only a few species of birds chooses to live in man made houses. Enjoy.
The WHB & friends, have focused efforts on a special place here in Kernersville, Bradford Village. We try to stop by, even not during holidays, to spend some time with Donna Fulp, the special activities director, and some of her residents.

This past Friday Emma's friends; Maddie, Ashlyn and Maggie stopped by after school and made 60 cards. This Friday, the 11th, we are going to surprise the residents and deliver the cards. We also will deliver my latest mosaic of Matthew so they can place it in one of their windows. This has a Valentine's theme to it and Emma suggested adding the 3 hearts to it. We decided they can symbolize the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
The earlier the better. This morning we were enjoying some time together and she asked - "Where did birdhouses come from?" She always wants to learn more and asks the best questions. I had no idea but have now done some research.

The native American tribes used to hang hollow gourds for purple martins to come and nest in. These purple martins kept away turkey vultures which would raid their meat racks. Rustic birdhouses and gourds developed into decorative birdhouses by bird lovers and birdwatchers that you see today.WHBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10712820658079338489noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3903938543833504234.post-33659320603276618422011-01-04T17:05:00.000-05:002011-01-05T16:00:26.061-05:00White ChristmasGoing through some picture from our white Christmas I found one of 1925-2. Personal handmade gifts were the theme of our family this year. I was messing with glass and my girls with beading and decoupage. She knew the colors that her teachers wore to school, so that helped her in the design of each unique necklace. Gone are the days of just giving an apple to the teacher.
I know the only way I made it through school was "sucking up" to my teachers. My daughter is on the right track because she also studies and applies herself like she is supposed to.
Always have and always will. A few months ago when I was getting ready to produce all the clubhouses I was at the Hobby Lobby trying to figure out a better way to make my glass flowers for the sides of the clubhouse. I asked a nice lady, that was buying several pieces of glass, a couple of questions. She was very helpful.

Her name is Rosie Burr and her company is Floral Prism. She also shared her facebook site where she said look at some of the work she had done. Look how creative she is, click here. While I scrolled down the page with examples of her work I saw something very familiar. The mosaic topped sitting bench of the chess / checker table I purchased several years ago at ABSeed and it is in one of my gardens. Small World isn't it.WHBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10712820658079338489noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3903938543833504234.post-33177915851505766572010-12-12T04:48:00.001-05:002010-12-12T04:50:20.892-05:00MosaicI have been intrigued with trying actual glass for Matthew. I have complete a few of these and with each one comes improvement - although all are very special to me. Below is the first Matthew that I shared with someone very special.

I am completing phase 1 of a consulting project that has been so much fun and more rewarding than words can describe. So, in my trial and error stage with glass mosaics I came up with the below piece that I recently presented to the owner of the business.
I have been blogging though. Helping my Christian brothers and sisters with projects. I recommend to them there must be ongoing and relevant content. I will also start delivering here also.

Why am I blessed. God has placed some special people in my life that I am learning a lot from. No need to list them out because that is not our style. Thanks for the prayers and being there for us.WHBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10712820658079338489noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3903938543833504234.post-611876719495025372010-11-17T15:52:00.001-05:002010-11-17T15:54:12.050-05:00Innocense / Be Careful What You SayIt is amazing how busy you can be. Busy is good and new projects are on the horizon and another big one that has been taken up my time is starting to really come together. Busy with work sometimes leaves the ones you love behind. And that is not right. Lack of priorities.

So this past weekend I made sure there was good family time and would like to share a conversation I had with my 9 year old daughter. As we all know, as you get older you learn a lot and mostly stuff that isn't good for you. I value the time with my daughter and tether to every word she says.

With fall in the air, the leaves are piling up, chicken stews are happening and occasionally you may get to go on a hayride. Well, the other day we had an opportunity to go on one and my daughter was not interested. I asked why? She responded, "I'm afraid because I may be stuck by a needle."

True story. So, realize little ears take everything you say or do very literally.WHBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10712820658079338489noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3903938543833504234.post-8252947694477041952010-11-15T13:38:00.000-05:002010-11-15T13:38:26.687-05:00New ProjectsThe WHB has provided a foundation to utilize creative marketing skills from many years of experience and to help others More to come. But, we all have college memories. I am personally glad there were not camera phones, blogs and other mediums to get your information shared as they are today. There is no telling what you may see. Thank goodness we have a forgiving God.

With that said - a very fond memory comes from 1983 when the Jim Valvano led "cardiac pack" beat Houston on April 4th. This recent birdhouse was created for a dear friend of the WHB. The roof will now always have a special meaning.
